The launching of Alitalia Airline in Maldive in 31st October 2017, increased the rate of tourists arrivals from Italy to Maldives.
Alitalias’ chartered flights in 2018 recorded a large number of tourist arrivals to Maldives from Italy while the rates continued to rise even in February 2019. In comparison to 2018, a 27.5% rise was seen in the tourist arrival statistics. 17,795 tourists arrivals from Italy to Maldives has been accounted till February 2019 while 2018, 13, 962 Italian tourists visited Maldives in 2018.
Statistics released in 2018 showed a consistent rise in Italian tourist arrivals since 2013. In addition, a rise in inflation to 6.4% in 2017 was seen in comparison to that of 5.5% in 2016, as per the Ministry of Tourism. A total of 24.8% increase was seen in the Italian market in 2017.
The greatest number of tourist arrivals from Italy is seen in December, January and February. On the other hand, the lowest arrivals are recorded in June and May.
