Shangri-La Maldives Resort & Spa Set to Reopen in December 2025

Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts has announced the reopening of Shangri-La Villingili Resort & Spa, an iconic destination that epitomises luxury, natural beauty, and exceptional hospitality. The resort will officially welcome back guests starting 31 December 2025.

The resort, leased by the Government to Addu Investments Private Limited for development and operation, has long been a vital pillar of Addu City’s economy. From its opening in 2009 until its closure, Shangri-La Villingili made significant contributions to both local livelihoods and enhanced connectivity through Gan International Airport. Prior to the closing of the resort, the resort employed more than 500 staff.

The reopening of Shangri-La Villingili will bring renewed economic and social benefits to Addu City, strengthen tourism diversification across the Maldives.
