After commencing operations in July 2025, a number of international and regional carriers have moved their services to VIA Terminal 1 to accommodate growing travel demand and enhance passenger flow.
As of 11 October 2025, Terminal 1 is now the base of operations for Maldivian (Q2), FitsAir (8D), Air Arabia (G9), Beond (B4), Beijing Capital Airlines (JD), Batik Air (OD), Bangkok Airways (PG), IndiGo (6E), Gulf Air (GF), and Malaysia Airlines (MH). This coordinated transition aims to expand service capacity and elevate the travel experience for passengers arriving in and departing from the Maldives.
The opening of Terminal 1 is expected to significantly increase the airport’s ability to manage rising passenger numbers while easing congestion across existing terminals. The new facility improves airline coordination and transit flow and introduces upgraded amenities designed for both regional and long-haul travelers. By modernizing operations and enhancing service delivery, Terminal 1 supports the Maldives’ continued growth as one of the world’s leading travel destinations.
In the months ahead, Velana International Airport will continue working with its airline partners to further develop and scale Terminal 1. With additional routes and services expected, the terminal is poised to become a key hub for air travel across the Indian Ocean.
