Maldives Sees Record-Breaking Tourist Arrivals in January 2026

The Maldives has kicked off 2026 on a record-breaking note, welcoming 224,788 visitors this January, surpassing the previous monthly high of 217,392 arrivals recorded in February 2024. The record reflects the destination’s continued global appeal and strong demand across key source markets, setting a positive tone for the year ahead.

The strong January performance highlights sustained demand across key source markets, establishing the Maldives’ position as one of the world’s most desirable leisure destinations. Russia, Italy, and China have emerged to be the key contributors to the Maldives’ tourism market, showing a 4.6% growth in total tourist arrivals compared to 2025, with an average of 7,251 daily arrivals. Traditionally influenced by seasonal travel patterns, the latest figures indicate a broader shift toward year-round demand, supported by expanded air connectivity, diversified accommodation offerings, and consistent destination marketing efforts.

As 2026 unfolds, the strong performance sets a new benchmark for the Maldivian tourism sector, ensuring another year of sustained growth and strengthening its position as a high-performing market in the global travel landscape.

With a record-breaking start to the year, 2026 promises to be another milestone year for the Maldives, recognised as one of the world’s leading island destinations for travellers seeking exclusive, memorable, and sustainable escapes.
