Trans Maldivian Airways Sets Record with 7,000+ Passenger Transfers in a Single Day

Trans Maldivian Airways (TMA) has reached a significant operational milestone, successfully transferring over 7,000 passengers on 15 February 2026, completing more than 800 take-offs and landings in a single day, the highest single-day operational volume in the airline’s history.

The achievement highlights TMA’s operational strength and its ability to deliver seamless connectivity at scale, even during periods of peak demand. Managing such a complex volume of flights within a single day reflects the airline’s advanced coordination, fleet readiness, and the tireless dedication of its teams who ensure smooth journeys across the archipelago.

The milestone marks another chapter in the airline’s continued growth trajectory. With the recent addition of its 66th aircraft, TMA further strengthens its position as the world’s largest seaplane operator. The fleet expansion enhances the airline’s capacity to meet the Maldives’ growing tourism demand while maintaining its high standards of safety, efficiency, and service excellence.

Adding to this remarkable period, Trans Maldivian Airways was honoured with the “Top Domestic Airline by Passenger Throughput” award at the Velana Awards 2026 — the first-ever aviation awards hosted by Velana International Airport. The recognition underscores TMA’s continued commitment to operational excellence and its pivotal role in connecting the Maldives.

As the Maldives’ leading domestic air transport provider, TMA connects travellers from Velana International Airport to more than 80 resorts across 16 atolls. From humble beginnings with just two aircrafts, the airline has evolved into a vital pillar of the nation’s tourism infrastructure, enabling greater accessibility to remote island destinations and supporting the industry’s sustained expansion.

With record-breaking performance, fleet expansion, and industry recognition converging in a single season, Trans Maldivian Airways continues to reaffirm its leadership in seaplane excellence.
