Banyan Tree Resorts Initiates “Connect To Earth from Dusk till Dawn”

Banyan Tree Vabbinfaru and Angsana Ihuru initiated a monthly event called Connect to Earth from Dusk till Dawn.

Inspired by the Earth Hour Movement, a yearly event celebrated by switching off the lights for one hour, Banyan Tree Resorts Maldives decided to take the movement to the next level and dedicate twelve hours every month to connect to Earth.

The 14th of September 2019 marked the first of what will be a series of Connect to Earth from Dusk Till Dawn, and the monthly occurrence is set to take place during the full moon to take advantage of the moon’s natural luminescence as the two resorts switch off the lights from 6pm until 6am the following day.

“By switching off the lights for one hour, we can make a substantial difference in the energy consumption and we can help reduce the effect of global warming,” says Hicham Najdi, the General Manager of Banyan Tree Vabbinfaru and Angsana Ihuru. “Just imagine how much more we can save if we switch off the lights for twelve hours every month instead of just one hour every year,” Najdi added.

The resorts dubbed the monthly occurrence as 6to6, taken from the start and end time of the event. The restaurants and bars will be candlelit in the evening and a special full moon in-villa dinner can be arranged for the guests upon request.

An “Under the Full Moon Night Snorkel” with the Marine Lab Team will be organized as part of the 6to6, aiming to give a delightfully unique underwater experience to the guests. The event aims to help raise awareness and show support in sustainable approaches to tackle climate change.

Banyan Tree Vabbinfaru and Angsana Ihuru are located in North Male’ Atoll, just 25 minutes away by speedboat from the airport. The two resorts are just 5 minutes by boat away from each other.
