Booking.com to charge commission on resort fees

Booking.com has announced that it will begin taking commissions from hotels worldwide on resort fees and other fee-based services such as Wi-Fi in the coming months.

Despite the terms being included in contracts, this is the first time booking.com or any other major online travel agency charged commissions on these fee-based services. This policy has been relayed to hotels worldwide and the rollout of Booking.com’s commission on hotels’ resort fees is expected to take place gradually by region. U.S. hotels are expected to see the new charges in June.

The implementation of the new policy will allow Booking.com to retain a higher percentage than before and it is expected to compensate the online travel agencies for their take in driving business to the properties.
