GAM Concludes First Session of ‘Guesthouse Opinion’

The first session of “Guesthouse Opinion”, Guesthouse Association of Maldives’ (GAM) virtual discussion forum, has concluded successfully. The session was held on 12th May, with guesthouse operators from Male’ atoll area participating.

Moderated by GAM President Moosa Nasih, the session began with an introduction about the forum.

GAM shared a summary of the efforts carried out with related government authorities and various industry stakeholders along with a future marketing plan and other financial aid opportunities for the guesthouses in this difficult time.

They also discussed on formulating a SOP to commence the industry works in line with the new norm.

The forum panel includes GAM’s board committee members from PR, Corporate & Finance, Planning & Marketing and an additional lobby team with experts from the industry.

“This was a productive forum which was held with GAM’s 5-member panel along with guesthouse operators in Male’ atoll. It gave us insight on ways to move forward,” GAM said in a statement.

GAM informs that the next session of the “Guesthouse Opinion” will be held with operators from a different atoll.

GAM previously revealed that according to the survey carried out to identify the impact of COVID-19, the Maldives guesthouse industry will lose nearly USD 30 million in revenue.

With the travel ban in effect and the nationwide shutdown of guesthouses, the industry has come to a halt indefinitely.
