Guesthouses, Hotels In Greater Male’ Area To Reopen For Transits

As Maldives prepares to welcome guests from around the world, guesthouses and hotels in greater Male’ area will also be allowed to reopen for transit purposes from July 15, 2020, under special consideration.

The guesthouses and hotels in Male’, Hulhumale’ and Villimale’ will be given special permits for the reopening and shall abide by the standards set forth under Section D2 of the ‘Guideline for Restarting Tourism in Maldives,’ Tourism Ministry revealed.

Section D2 of the guidelines which was published by the Ministry of Tourism on June 23, 2020, states that guesthouses and hotels in inhabited islands can accommodate tourists for an overnight stay for transit purposes. Hence, the properties have to follow ‘these guidelines along with the HPA standards.

Maldives moves forward after the COVID-19 pandemic, adjusting to a new normal and getting ready to restart the economy. The borders will be open from July 15, 2020 to all nationalities and the Ministry of Tourism, together with the tourism industry is preparing to welcome tourist back to the sunny side of life.

A confirmed booking in a tourist establishment registered with the Ministry of Tourism, prior to travelling to the Maldives is mandatory for the travelers.

Guesthouses and hotels located on other islands will be open for bookings starting from August 1, 2020.
