India Emerges as Top Market for Maldives, Surpassing Russia

According to recent statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism, India has overtaken Russia as the leading tourist market for the Maldives. The data reveals that the Maldives has welcomed 205,278 visitors from India this year, constituting 11.2 per cent of the total arrivals.

This development marks a significant change as Russia, previously holding the top spot, has now slipped to second place. The Maldives has recorded 203,539 tourist arrivals from Russia, representing 11.1 per cent of the total.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time India has claimed the top position in tourist arrivals to the Maldives this year. The initial instance occurred in April when India registered 17,577 arrivals, surpassing Russia’s 16,979 arrivals.

With just a few days remaining in the year, the Maldives is on track to achieving its tourist arrival target, which was set by the previous administration at 1.9 million. The current tally stands at 1,834,759 tourist arrivals, highlighting the nation’s robust appeal as a tourist destination.
