LUX* South Ari Atoll launches Solar System for Clean Energy

On December 1st, 2018, LUX* South Ari Atoll officially launched its solar system that will utilize all available roof spaces for a more environment-friendly resort running on clean energy. The solar system will be coupled with offshore SolarSea® platforms by next year to reach the desired solar power production capacity. The estimated savings are around 234,000 liters of diesel per year, which corresponds to 620 tons of CO2 for the same period of time. This equivalents to e.g. driving 3.2 million kilometers by car or driving 81 times around the world by car every year.

Swimsol is the leading solar energy company in the Maldives and a global leader in offshore photovoltaics. The Austrian company has extensive expertise in island micro-grids and heavy-duty tropical solar PV systems as well as a large team in the Maldives for operation and maintenance.

We are proud to have this project installed at LUX* South Ari Atoll. We always see ways to add value and put ourselves as a leading sustainability resort in the Maldives. Once Phase II of this project is in motion, we will be able to manage energy better and find ways to effectively save on the cost of producing energy on the island itself, says Jonas Amstad, General Manager at LUX* South Ari Atoll.

This is a milestone project showing what a high-end island resort can achieve with solar technology. So much diesel is saved and the cost is reduced by using the roofs and the ocean for solar panels. For us, LUX* South Ari is an amazing partner in our quest to bring clean energy to the Maldives, says Thomas Siebenbrunner, Head of Sales at Swimsol GmbH.
