Champa Hussain Afeef, one of the pioneers of Maldives tourism said that high and low tourist season is a concept of the past and Maldives is suitable for travelers year-round.
Afeef, speaking at “Tourism Upbeat: The Pioneer’s Talk,” an interactive discussion session on the Maldives Tourism Industry’s 50-year journey, said the idea of a high and low tourist season is outdated, and the Maldives is a year-round destination. Further on the note, he stated that the concept was adopted from other nations, but that the Maldives has shown to be a location that is suited for tourists from all over the world at all times of the year.
Hussain Afeef also stressed the need of sustaining national peace as well as regional security in order to grow the tourist business in the country.
During the event, he also shared how the Maldivian tourism industry began in the early days and the difficulties they had faced in establishing the industry. In the event, he was joined by Mr. MU Manik, Mr.Ahmed Naseem and Mr.George Corbin who brought the first tourist group to the Maldives in 1972.
The session was held as a hybrid session where speakers talked about their experience and students were given the chance to interact with the speakers. The event was organized by the Ministry of Tourism commemorating 50 years of tourism in the Maldives.
