Maldives Targets 2.5 Million Tourist Arrivals in 2026The Maldives targets 2.5 million tourists in 2026, following steady growth and rising tourism revenue in recent years.

President Mohamed Muizzu today has announced that the Maldives is targeting 2.5 million tourist arrivals in 2026, underscoring the government’s continued commitment to strengthening tourism as the cornerstone of the national economy.
The ambitious 2026 target builds on steady growth in recent years and aligns with the government’s broader strategy to enhance destination appeal, expand connectivity, and boost overall tourism performance. For 2025, the government targeted tourist arrivals for 2.3 million visitors, reflecting a phased and sustained approach to growth.
While total arrivals at the end of 2025 fell short of the 2.3 million target, the government remains optimistic, citing strong demand trends and positive performance indicators across key source markets.
According to figures shared by the President, the Maldives welcomed 2.2 million tourists in 2025, representing a 9.8 percent increase compared to 2024. Tourism revenue also recorded strong gains, reaching USD 5.55 billion, up 13.8 percent from the previous year, highlighting the sector’s continued economic significance.
To support long-term growth ambitions, President Muizzu further announced that 2027 will be designated as “Visit Maldives Year”, a national initiative intended to bring together tourism stakeholders, industry partners, and government institutions to further elevate the Maldives’ global tourism presence.
The announcement reinforces confidence in the Maldives’ tourism sector as it continues to expand capacity, diversify offerings, and position itself for sustained growth in the years ahead.
