Maldives recorded 1.2 million tourist arrivals in 2015 with receipts around $2.5 billion. With the rapid changes in global travel markets, Maldives continues to strengthen its foothold as one of the leading tourist destinations in the world. While tourism still remains the leading economic industry in the country by far, innovative new approaches in marketing are required to ensure the sector remains at the top.

According to Reed Travel Exhibitions, world’s leading travel and tourism organizer, 500 events in over 30 countries were organized in the year 2014. More than 7 million participants around the world visited these fairs, boosting businesses and local tourism. In addition, $6.53 billion of new business was generated in the year 2014 because of travel related exhibitions.

Maldives will host its very first and only international travel trade show – Travel Trade Maldives in July 2017. With TTM 2017, Maldives will stage a comprehensive state of the art international platform for hotels, resorts and industry service providers in Maldives to network, meet, and partner with international tour operators and travel agents. TTM aims to facilitate the tourism industry of Maldives to reach the ultimate target of 2 million tourists with over $3.5 billion in receipts by the end of 2020.
