Maldives welcomes the first flight of Air Italy

Velana International Airport has welcomed the first flight of Air Italy to the Maldives today. This marks the 3rd direct service flight from Italy to the Maldives.

To enhance Air Italy’s 2019-20 winter schedule, the flight arrived at the Maldives with Italian tourists via Milan Malpensa. The flight will operate 3 times weekly every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

The landing aircraft, was welcomed with a water cannon salute and, upon arrival, a celebratory event was held at the airport which saw the attendance of the acting Managing Director of Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) Moosa Solih, the Italian Honorary Consul‎ to the Maldives Marazzi Giorgia, along with various dignitaries, a number of local media and travel industry representatives, alongside airport officials.

The acting Managing Director of MACL Moosa Solih highlighted that this is the 3rd airlines operating in the Maldives from Italy.

The national airline of Italy, Alitalia along with the chartered flight NEOS, has been operating direct flights between Maldives and Italy.
