Maldivian, the national airline of the Maldives, has resumed scheduled flights to Kooddoo Airport following recent runway renovations. The route connecting Gaafu Alif Atoll with the capital city, Male’, had been temporarily suspended since early September this year due to the airport’s delayed infrastructure upgrades.
The runway’s condition had previously led to damage to two Maldivian aircraft serving this route, resulting in their grounding. Originally inaugurated in 2012, the airport had undergone prior upgrades in 2017 to accommodate larger aircraft.
Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Mohamed Ameen, highlighted these challenges and noted ongoing collaborative efforts between the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), air operators, and relevant authorities to address infrastructure concerns and support sustainable flight operations to regional airports.
Maldivian will now operate two daily scheduled flights to Kooddoo Airport, following the completion of runway renovations. The resumption of flights is expected to enhance travel for travellers, ensuring more reliable air connections to Kooddoo, the resident island of Mercure Maldives Kooddoo Resort, and facilitating access to nearby resorts like Pullman Maldives Maamutaa, The Residence Maldives at Dhigurah, Raffles Maldives Meradhoo Resort, all located in the same atoll.

This improved accessibility will facilitate easier travel to nearby resorts such as Pullman Maldives Maamutaa, The Residence Maldives at Dhigurah, ROBINSON MALDIVES and Raffles Maldives Meradhoo Resort, all situated within the same atoll. As a result, travellers will enjoy a seamless experience exploring the stunning beauty and luxurious offerings of Gaafu Alif Atoll.
