Sun Siyam Resorts Celebrates International Women’s Day 2024

Sun Siyam Resorts continues its mission to empower women throughout the organisation and, in celebration of International Women’s Day, has created a number of activities to place emphasis on its importance.

At Sun Siyam Iru Veli, a schedule of events has been arranged for guests and team members, from Zumba to cocktail events, culminating with a BBQ Beach Dinner for female team members. With the theme #insprireinclusion, the resort aims to embody these words throughout its celebrations. At Sun Siyam Iru Fushi, guests can take part in a sumptuous lobster beach banquet to celebrate the women in their lives to celebrate this year’s International Women’s Day.

Sun Siyam Vilu Reef celebrates International Women’s Day on March 8th by honouring the remarkable women on its team, both local and international. The event includes a special dinner by the beach attended by staff and distinguished women from the nearby local island, Dh. Meedhoo. It aims to recognize the strength and empowerment of women from diverse backgrounds and highlight their contributions to the community. Thoughtful gifts will be presented as tokens of gratitude, showcasing the resort’s commitment to inclusivity and empowerment. Several other activities have been carried out at Sun Siyam Olhuveli, Sun Siyam Iru Fushi and Siyam World to celebrate and honour their incredible female team members throughout.

As part of the group’s emphasis on providing employment opportunities for local communities and investing in social facilities, people-focused initiatives form a big part of Sun Siyam Resorts’ efforts to champion sustainable development and help local communities thrive.  From helping build pre-schools and improving healthcare resources to providing sports facilities and hosting tournaments that bring communities even closer together, and from outsourcing jobs such as local food preparation and gardening work to women’s development committees, Sun Siyam Resorts strives to turn tourism into a force for good wherever possible.

To enable employees to live and work close to their families, and to ensure the employment opportunities never discriminate against ages or genders – including ladies of retirement age – some of the resorts, such as Siyam World, organise morning and evening boat transfers.

On the local island of Kudafari, the Women’s Development Committee is in place to make sure that women have the opportunity to develop vital skills to enable employment at all levels.

Speaking about this initiative, Sara Siyam, Creative Director, said: “WDC is not just an excellent concept but also a practical one. At last, we have the capability to engage in significant activities that have a direct positive effect on the communities in the Maldives. This is particularly noteworthy as it empowers women in a meaningful way.”

Sun Siyam Resorts is dedicated to operating sustainably and responsibly in the Maldives and Sri Lanka while offering authentic guest experiences. The group-wide Sun Siyam Cares program prioritizes sustainability through initiatives such as reducing energy and water use, managing waste to reduce plastic use, supporting community development, and investing in renewable energy. It also focuses on conservation efforts and works to preserve local heritage and cultural practices. By following these sustainability practices, the resorts aim to minimize the environmental impact and carbon footprint and contribute to the socio-economic well-being of the communities in which they operate.
