Tourist Arrivals To Maldives Increases By 14.3% In January 2020

Ministry of Tourism has announced that tourist arrivals to the Maldives have increased by 14.3 percent in January 2020, in comparison to January 2019.

According to the statistics by the Ministry, Maldives welcomed 177,140 tourists in January 2020. This includes 173,347 tourists who traveled to Maldives through air transportation and 3,793 traveled by sea. While January 2019 welcomed 154,969 tourists with 151,552 tourists traveling through air and 3,417 through sea.

The strong performance region-wise in January 2020 was from Europe (54.6%) with a 13.4% increase and 94,725 tourists.

The second strongest performance was from Asia and the Pacific (35.6%). There were 61,688 tourists from this region in January 2020. This is a 11.9% increase compared to 2019.

This was followed by American countries (4.7%) with 8,078 tourists, Middle East (4.2%) with 7,297 tourists and Africa (0.9%) with 1,536 tourists.

The top 5 country-wise markets were China (18.3%), Italy (12%), India (8%), Russia (7.2%) and UK (6.2%).
