Ministry of Tourism has revealed the World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) Global Summit on Community-based Tourism is set to be held from 15 – 16 June at CROSSROADS Maldives and Paradise Island Resort & Spa.
The tourism ministry is collaborating with the UNWTO to organise three key events of the organisation, as part of the golden jubilee celebrations of the tourism industry of the Maldives. As such, the 34th Joint Meeting of the UNWTO Commission for East Asia and the Pacific and the UNWTO Commission for South Asia, along with the UNWTO Ministerial Roundtable on Tourism Resilience through Innovation and Digitalization in Asia and the Pacific, and UNWTO Global Summit on Community-based Tourism will be held.
The 34th CAP-CSA Joint meeting is the first in-person Commission meeting in the region since 2019, after having virtual meetings for two consecutive years due to the pandemic. The meeting will provide member states from the Asia Pacific region to discuss re-starting and recovery of tourism and latest developments in the tourism sector.
The meeting will be held at CROSSROADS Maldives on the morning of 14th June 2022.
The UNWTO Ministerial Roundtable on Tourism Resilience through Innovation and Digitalization in Asia and the Pacific will bring together high-level policymakers, including the Ministers and invited industry leaders for the Asia-Pacific tourism. This will provide an in-person opportunity for the high-level officials and industry leaders to discuss one of the top and trendy priorities of tourism development – Innovation and Digitalization during the post-pandemic era. It will also affirm UNWTO’s commitment to tourism recovery through innovation and digitalization in Asia-Pacific.
The meeting will be held at CROSSROADS Maldives on the afternoon of 14th June 2022.
The 2022 UNWTO Global Summit on Community-based Tourism, jointly organized by UNWTO and the Ministry of Tourism of the Maldives, is part of special celebration of the Maldives as the country is commemorating the 50th anniversary of tourism in the country. The summit will provide a platform for global tourism leaders to discuss the contribution of community-based tourism to the achievement of sustainable development goals and its accompanying challenges from the different perspectives of the diverse actors beyond the tourism sector. Thematic sessions on gastronomy tourism, agro-tourism and community-based tourism will be held. The ministry said the summit will be attended by local and international experts and professionals of the industry.
