Chongqing Airlines has restarted its service to Malé on January 8th, reviving an important travel route between the Maldives and Chongqing, the largest commercial hub in Southwest China. The airline will operate three weekly flights, scheduled for Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, with a stopover in Colombo. This Malé-Colombo-Chongqing route will also provide passengers with easy connections to other airlines.
The resumption of this service is expected to foster greater cultural, investment, and tourism exchanges between Chongqing and the Maldives. As the only airline offering regular flights along this route, Chongqing Airlines strengthens the link between the two destinations.
China remains the Maldives’ top source of tourists, with 246,125 visitors in 2024, maintaining its leadership in the market. The introduction of Chongqing Airlines’ flights is deemed to positively impact these figures and boost tourism between the two regions.
The airline operates the Airbus A320neo on this route, featuring three cabin classes: Business Class, Premium Economy, and Economy Class. Chongqing Airlines, a joint venture between the Chongqing Municipal People’s Government and China Southern Airlines, serves a network of over 50 destinations across China.
Flying through Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport, passengers can easily reach popular cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Guangdong, Zhejiang, and Yunnan. Additionally, the airline highlights Chongqing’s unique attractions, including the “Magical 8D Chongqing,” enhancing the overall travel experience.
With this resumed service, Chongqing Airlines aims to further strengthen connectivity between the Maldives and Southwest China, supporting the Maldives’ thriving tourism sector and offering Chinese travellers a reliable and convenient way to reach the island nation.
