In the Maldives, dining is often shaped by the ocean, but at You & Me Maldives, the experience goes beyond views of the lagoon. Beneath the surface of the island, H2O by Andrea Berton brings together contemporary cuisine and the surrounding marine environment, creating an intimate setting where the underwater world becomes part of the dining experience.

Located fully beneath the sea, H2O is designed around a 360-degree panoramic view of the reef. Through its curved glass walls, diners can watch sharks, stingrays, tropical fish and other marine life move through the waters surrounding the restaurant, creating a constantly changing backdrop throughout the meal. With seating limited to 20 guests at a time, the setting remains intimate and personal.

A Michelin-Starred Culinary Concept

At the heart of H2O is the cuisine of Andrea Berton, one of Italy’s celebrated chefs whose contemporary approach shapes the restaurant’s gastronomic identity. The menu takes inspiration from contemporary Mediterranean cuisine, presented through carefully composed tasting menus that bring together refined techniques, premium ingredients and detailed presentation.

The dining experience extends beyond the food, with wine pairings, personalised service and curated music contributing to the atmosphere. Rather than separating the culinary experience from its surroundings, H2O brings the elements together, allowing the changing underwater scene to accompany each course.

An Underwater World as the Dining Room

The restaurant’s design is central to the experience. Created by LAGO, the dome-shaped structure features sophisticated interiors that sit within the marine environment, giving guests the feeling of dining within the reef itself.

As the meal progresses, the view outside remains in motion. Fish pass through the reef, rays glide across the water and sharks appear in the distance, making the underwater setting more than a backdrop. Every table has a direct connection to the marine environment, giving the experience a sense of immersion that is difficult to replicate above the surface.

A Setting for Meaningful Occasions

With its intimate setting and distinctive surroundings, H2O has become a setting for occasions that call for something beyond a conventional dinner. Proposals, honeymoons, anniversaries, romantic evenings and private celebrations can all take place beneath the surface, surrounded by the waters of the Maldives.

The restaurant also forms part of You & Me Maldives’ culinary programming, including Gourmet Weeks featuring Chef Andrea Berton, giving guests opportunities to experience his cuisine within the setting where his culinary concept meets the Maldivian ocean.

Protecting the Reef Beneath H2O

The marine environment surrounding H2O is also at the centre of You & Me Maldives’ conservation efforts. The resort runs a coral restoration and rehabilitation programme in collaboration with marine biologists and its team, working to restore damaged areas of the reef and support the ecosystem surrounding the island.

The programme includes planting new coral frames and restoring coral fragments, helping strengthen biodiversity and preserve habitats for the marine life visible from H2O. In this way, the reef is not simply part of the restaurant’s setting; it is a living ecosystem that the resort is working to protect.

Dining at H2O ultimately brings together two experiences that are closely connected to the Maldives: its culinary creativity and its underwater world. With Andrea Berton’s cuisine served beneath the surface and the reef unfolding beyond the glass, a meal here becomes an experience shaped as much by the ocean as it is by what arrives at the table.
