According to the statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism, the Maldives has seen a total of 111,654 visitors welcomed as of the 19th of December.
Between December 1 and 19, the country recorded a cumulative arrival of 111,654 tourists, contributing to an overall figure of 1,795,501 tourist arrivals during this period. This represents a 6.2 per cent increase compared to the 105,153 arrivals reported in the same period last year and a notable rise from the 98,775 tourists welcomed in December 2021.
The year 2023 has witnessed a 12.5 per cent surge in arrivals compared to the same period in the previous year, marking a significant growth from the 1,596,405 arrivals in 2022 and the 1,256,428 arrivals in 2021.
Breaking down the figures, the Ministry reported that the daily average for tourist arrivals in 2023 is 5,376, with an average length of stay being seven days. The cumulative figures for the year indicate consistent tourist arrivals, with notable peaks in July, August, October, and November.
Despite a temporary dip in May and June, with figures still surpassing 100,000 arrivals, the Maldives achieved a significant milestone earlier in the year by welcoming its one-millionth tourist on July 16. The country marked the culmination of the year by welcoming the 1.8 millionth tourist on Wednesday.
