Marriott Hotels Officially in The Home-Sharing Business

World’s largest hotel company, Marriot is officially venturing into the home-sharing business with the launch of Homes & Villas by Marriot International in 100 destinations.

The destinations include 40 new markets for Marriot such as Amalfi Coast in Italy, North Lake Tahoe in California, Saint-Tropez, France, and St. Barts.

Marriot’s home sharing launch, while much larger than its initial pilot by far, is still relatively smaller in terms of inventory than platforms run by Airbnb and Booking which claims to have above six million home listings in total.

Even though the brand began this venture in 2018 in partnership with Hostmaker, a UK-based property Management company, both businesses have decided to part ways after the year-long pilot. Initial partners of the current business model include TurnKey Vacation Rentals, LaCure, Mainsail Lodging, CPG and Veeve.

“Our goal is to be the world’s favorite travel company, offering a comprehensive travel platform through Marriott Bonvoy,” said Marriott’s Global Chief Commercial Officer Stephanie Linnartz. “The more we have to offer customers and to make things seamless and easy, the more they will love us, and that’s our goal.”
