Amilla Maldives has appointed Marc Reader as General Manager, bringing more than three decades of international hospitality experience and extensive knowledge of the Maldives’ resort industry to the property.
Reader has held senior leadership positions across Australia, Singapore and the Maldives, with experience spanning resort management, property repositioning, team development and guest experience. With a background in culinary arts and hospitality management, he also brings a strong focus on dining, personalised service and the details that shape the guest experience.
His long-standing connection with the Maldives includes leadership roles at Huvafen Fushi, PER AQUUM and Finolhu, where he served from Christmas 2016 until Easter 2023. His experience across the destination and international hospitality markets has given him an understanding of the Maldives’ tourism sector, its guests and the travel trade.
In his new role at Amilla Maldives, Reader will focus on strengthening relationships with tour operators, travel advisors, destination management companies (DMCs) and commercial partners, while expanding the resort’s presence across key international markets. He also plans to maintain close engagement with the travel trade and work with partners to respond to evolving guest expectations.
At the resort, his priorities include developing the team, enhancing the guest experience and building on Amilla’s distinctive identity while maintaining its relaxed and personalised approach to hospitality.
Reader’s leadership philosophy centres on people, encompassing guests, travel partners and the team responsible for delivering the resort experience. He believes that beyond accommodation, dining and facilities, modern luxury is increasingly defined by time, space, freedom and the opportunity for guests to experience a destination on their own terms.
This approach aligns with Amilla Maldives’ natural setting in Baa Atoll, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Known for its surrounding reef and Blue Hole, the resort also features established tropical vegetation, mature banyan trees and abundant birdlife, offering guests opportunities to explore the island’s natural environment or enjoy a slower pace of island living.
As a family man, Reader also recognises the differing needs of couples, families and multi-generational travellers, with an emphasis on creating experiences that allow guests to shape their own stays.
“I’m tremendously happy to be back in the Maldives and especially to be joining Amilla. It is an island with enormous personality and enormous potential. My job now is to work with our team and our partners to build on what is already here, strengthen our connection with the market and make sure Amilla is very firmly in the conversation,” Reader said.
His appointment marks a new chapter for Amilla Maldives, with a focus on building on the resort’s existing strengths, deepening industry relationships and continuing to develop its guest experience.
