Where the turquoise waters of the Maldives meet the timeless  allure of the Mediterranean, a new gastronomic story unfolds at JW Marriott Maldives Kaafu Atoll Island Resort. On August 30, 2026, Riva unveils its renewed identity as a Mediterranean dining destination, ushering in a new chapter  shaped by vibrant flavors, understated elegance, and the vision of Executive Sous Chef Cristiano Goattin.

Meaning “shore” in Italian, the restaurant celebrates the meeting of two worlds, bringing together European warmth and  the essence of the Maldives. Its concept reflects an enduring connection between land and sea, blending cherished traditions  with the finest ingredients, natural bounty, and the distinctive character of the islands.

At the helm of this transformation is Italian chef Cristiano Goattin, whose career spans more than two decades across some  of the region’s most respected luxury hotels, resorts and fine dining establishments, including Marriott, Jumeirah, Hilton,  The Luxury Collection and leading culinary destinations throughout the Gulf and Asia. Drawing on his Italian heritage and  extensive international experience, Chef Goattin has developed a philosophy rooted in authenticity, enriched by diverse  influences and a deep appreciation for exceptional ingredients and resources.

“Riva represents both a personal and professional journey,” said Goattin. “It is about bringing the spirit of Mediterranean  to the Maldives in a way that feels genuine, rooted in place, and mindful of the environment. My goal is to create dining  experiences that are simple, honest, and memorable, where guests can taste the connection between two shores.”

The restaurant’s design mirrors the relaxed sophistication of seaside living, with whitewashed textures, weathered wood,  and azure accents that echo the surrounding lagoons. The open-air deck provides an inviting setting for sunset dining, while  the calm interiors offer a sense of effortless coastal ease.

The menu highlights the freshness of Maldivian seafood alongside regional staples such as Greek olive oils, Sicilian  lemons, and aged balsamic. Fresh herbs and aromatic greens from the resort’s JW Garden further bring a touch of the  island’s natural abundance to the table. Among the menu’s highlights are the Signature Seafood Stew and Half Lobster  Tagliatelle, each reflecting the restaurant’s refined interpretation of Mediterranean cuisine. Every dish is crafted to balance  tradition with lightness, creating a vibrant yet refined expression that allows the finest ingredients to shine.

“At JW Marriott Maldives Kaafu Atoll Island Resort, “We believe that luxury is ever-evolving, and we are continually  innovating our offerings to create experiences that feel fresh, meaningful, and deeply connected to our destination. At  Riva, the sea becomes a bridge between two shores, bringing together the vibrant soul of the Mediterranean and the  tranquil beauty of the Maldives. Through simple, honest flavors, warm hospitality, and unforgettable oceanfront settings,  we invite guests to slow down, savor the moment, and celebrate life’s most meaningful connections,” said Srikanth  Devarapalli, General Manager of JW Marriott Maldives Kaafu Atoll Island Resort.
