Kuredu Holdings Pvt Ltd Has Signed an Agreement with IASL to Operate Madivaru Airport in Lhaviyani Atoll

Island Aviation Services Limited has been contracted to operate the newly developed Madivaru Airport by Kuredu Holdings Pvt Ltd in Lhaviyani Atoll.

The agreement was signed on 17th January 2022 and Island Aviation says that they are expecting to open the airport and operate Maldivian Airline’s scheduled flights from February.

The construction work of the airport was contracted to China’s Beijing Urban Construction Group and this project was signed on 28th May 2018. Construction of the airport was completed and the first test flight was successfully conducted to the airport on 25th December 2021.

Madivaru Airport consists of a 1,200-metre runway, terminal, aircraft parking area, and a fire building. The airport was developed as part of the government’s pledge to establish airports within 30 minutes of every inhabited island in the Maldives. This is the first airport to be developed in Lhaviyani Atoll, which consists of four islands and a population of 13,000 residents. The atoll also consists of a large number of resorts, with more being developed.

Island Aviation currently operates three domestic airports; Dharavandhoo Airport, Thimarafushi Airport, and Ifuru Airport. The company also operates the Maafaru International Airport.
