Conrad Maldives Rangali Island joined the global celebration of Earth Hour last Saturday 27th March at 8:30pm to shine a spotlight on climate change.
Throughout the day, in the hours leading up to Earth Hour, guests were encouraged to snap their photos behind photo frames spread around the resort with the 60+ sign. Guest took part by being the voice of nature through their social media posts using a special hashtag #ConradMaldivesPledge.
Conrad Maldives Rangali Island also participated in the first ever Earth Hour Virtual Spotlight by inviting guests and team members to write their environmental pledges after which they received a digital pledge certificate. The goal is to support Earth Hour’s message by taking over the social media feeds of millions around the world and put the spotlight on our planet, the issues we face, and our place within it all. Pledges included raising environmental awareness, to inspire and educate others about sustainability and reducing the use of plastic.
In the evening, a special Earth Hour beachfront dining event was held at Vilu Restaurant. Unplugged acoustic tunes performed by the resident band and cultural songs inspired by the ocean were sung by the resort’s talented Maldivian “Boduberu” team.
The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) created the annual global environmental awareness event 12 years ago and inspires millions of people, businesses and landmarks worldwide to turn off their lights for 60 minutes and showcase their commitment to combatting climate change and protecting nature.
