Sandies Bathala Plants 100 Reef Stars to Restore Coral Reefs

Sandies Bathala has always been at the forefront of sustainability, and this September, they took a significant step forward with the successful planting of 100 reef stars as part of their BathaStar Build 2024 project. This initiative is a testament to the unwavering commitment to marine conservation and enhancing the natural beauty of the surrounding reefs.

The project began with the meticulous collection of coral fragments from Bathalantis coral nursery by their dedicated Marine Lab team. The main event kicked off on September 18, with enthusiastic participation from the guests, who eagerly joined in tying coral fragments to the reef stars. It was a powerful demonstration of how a community can come together to make a tangible impact on the environment.

For the following two days, the guests and team members engaged in the intricate process of tying coral fragments and transporting reef stars to the designated restoration site. The remarkable dedication and teamwork displayed by everyone were truly inspiring. By the conclusion of the project, they had successfully planted and anchored 100 reef stars, establishing new habitats for marine life and contributing to the restoration of the vibrant underwater ecosystem.

This achievement aligns perfectly with Sandies Bathala’s recent accolade as the “Most Sustainable Resort 2024” at the Travel Trade Maldives Awards.

The BathaStar Build 2024 is more than just a coral restoration project—it’s a symbol of their commitment to sustainability and the power of collective action. They are incredibly grateful to all the guests who contributed their time and effort, and look forward to continuing the journey towards a more sustainable future.
