Velana International Airport (VIA) will begin international check-in operations at Terminal 2 on 25 October 2026, with ten airlines relocating their check-in services to the terminal ahead of the peak winter travel season.
The move will bring both terminals into use for international passenger check-in, increasing capacity during a period of higher travel demand for the Maldives. The ten airlines moving their check-in operations to Terminal 2 are Neos, Aeroflot, US-Bangla Airlines, Centrum Air, Azur Air, S7 Airlines (Siberia), Shirak Avia, Kuwait Airways, Gulliv Air and French Bee. The airlines will operate their check-in services from Terminal 2 throughout the winter season.
Terminal 2, which previously served as VIA’s international terminal, reopened in February 2026 following refurbishment and has since been handling domestic flights. The terminal features 27 check-in counters, upgraded baggage belts, food and beverage outlets, dedicated prayer rooms and a children’s play area.
The relocation is intended to distribute passenger traffic across both terminals and improve check-in capacity and passenger flow during the seasonal increase in international travel. The move comes as the Maldives approaches its peak tourism season, which typically runs from November to March and coincides with winter holidays in major source markets, including Europe.
Passengers travelling with the ten designated airlines from 25 October onwards have been advised to proceed directly to Terminal 2 for check-in and allow sufficient time to complete departure formalities.
