Vietnamese carrier VietJet Air is set to launch direct flights between Ho Chi Minh City and Malé from this December, adding new air connectivity between Vietnam and the Maldives ahead of the destination’s peak tourist season.
The airline will operate three weekly flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays using Airbus A320 aircraft. The service is scheduled to begin on this December, with VietJet extending its existing Ho Chi Minh City–Colombo route to Malé.
The new service is expected to strengthen connectivity between the Maldives and Vietnam, which remains a developing source market for the destination. Vietnam ranked 65th among the Maldives’ tourist source markets last year, according to figures from the Ministry of Tourism.
To mark the launch, VietJet is running a three-day “Golden Days” promotional campaign from 8 to 10 October 2026. The promotion includes Eco-class fares from 0 VND, while Deluxe-class fares are available with a 20 per cent discount.
The promotional fares are available through VietJet’s official website and mobile application for travel through 30 September 2027. The 0 VND fares exclude applicable taxes and fees and are subject to seat availability.
The Maldives recorded 2,813 tourist arrivals from Vietnam in 2025, compared with 2,916 arrivals in 2024. Through the end of August 2026, a total of 2,001 Vietnamese tourists had visited the Maldives.
The new Maldives service forms part of VietJet’s wider international network expansion, with the airline also adding routes from Ho Chi Minh City to Chiang Mai in Thailand and Clark in the Philippines, as well as new services from Hanoi to Prague in the Czech Republic and Almaty in Kazakhstan.
