Villa Nautica Celebrates Love Beneath the Indian Ocean

Villa Nautica marked a special milestone for returning guests Frank and Heike Reestorff, who celebrated 25 years together with an intimate underwater wedding ceremony during their third stay at the resort, bringing an idea they had imagined on an earlier visit to life.

The idea first came about the previous November, when the couple were diving with diveOceanus at Villa Nautica. Their request was simple: a small ceremony at a shallow dive site, with boards carrying their wedding message. Keeping the celebration intimate, the team carefully brought their vision to life with personalised touches.

Maagiri Reef was chosen for its sandy top reef and clear underwater setting. The dive team created a heart-shaped frame and what they called a “bubble island”: 12 scuba cylinders positioned around the ceremony space, wrapped with palm leaves and released together to send streams of bubbles upwards through the water. The couple’s ceremony phrases were laser-engraved onto wooden plaques in German, a small detail that made the setting feel unmistakably theirs.

There was another piece to work out. Frank and Heike wanted their son, his girlfriend and two close friends beside them underwater. The friends had never dived before, so diveOceanus introduced them to scuba through Discover Scuba Diving, building the confidence and basic skills they needed before joining the couple in a supervised repeat session for the ceremony.

Villa Nautica’s Island Hosts and resort teams brought the couple’s vision to life, from dressing the boat and creating personalised details to capturing the underwater ceremony and aerial moments. When Heike saw the finished celebration, she was moved to tears, describing it as “simply perfect and beyond expectations.” The couple took the engraved plaques and wedding banner home as keepsakes from a day 25 years in the making.
