Angsana Velavaru Team has successfully achieved Gold EarthCheck Certification for 2019.
EarthCheck is a significant achievement in what is widely regarded as the world’s leading benchmarking, certification and environmental management program in the travel and tourism industry is bestowed to those hotels that demonstrate strict social and environmental practices.
With this recognition, Angsana Velavaru has joined an elite group of industry leaders who, over a period of five years or more, have consistently demonstrated their commitment to host communities and implemented high standards of environmental management.
The resort released a statement saying, “As stewards of responsible tourism, we have conceptualized our values in our “Brand for Good” framework to go beyond the precautionary approach and inspire exceptional experiences among our guests to “embrace the environment and empower people” at each of our locations.”
‘Velavaru’ means ‘turtle island’ in Dhivehi, the national language of Maldives. Angsana Velavaru blends tropical lifestyle, the Maldivian island experience and the comforts of modern living.
All the villas overlook the ocean and offer a sweeping view of miles and miles of cobalt blue water. In 2009, the resort developed a cluster of villas circling the lagoon. The InOcean Villas – the first of its kind in the Maldives – are suspended over water, on stilts. The resort is uniquely Maldivian with ‘cajan’ (coconut leaf thatched) roofs for island villas and sandy floors at the restaurants, bars, and the lobby.
