Barceló Nasandhura Malé Officially Opens with a Grand Celebration

Barceló Hotel Group marked its official debut in the capital city of Maldives with the grand opening of Barceló Nasandhura Malé.

The hotel was inaugurated by the Minister of Tourism and Environment, Thoriq Ibrahim, in a ceremony attended by government officials, foreign diplomats, tourism professionals and other distinguished guests.

Speaking at the event, Minister Thoriq highlighted the significance of the development, noting that the original Nasandhura Hotel had played a pioneering role in shaping tourism in the capital. He expressed optimism that the Barceló Group’s investment would uphold that legacy while introducing new standards of excellence in the city’s hospitality sector. The Minister also pointed to the hotel’s potential to boost high-end tourism in Malé and strengthen the Maldives’ position in the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) segment.

With prime seafront location and unobstructed views of the turquoise Maldivian waters, Barceló Nasandhura Malé stands out both for its excellent location and original design, offering guests a holistic experience in a blissful destination. The hotel comprises of 136 rooms of various categories and 116 exclusive apartments, offering guests luxurious urban accommodation in the vibrant city of Malé.

The launch of Barceló Nasandhura underscores the group’s ongoing expansion in Asia. Barceló Hotel Group now operates 11 properties across six countries in the region, including a second property in the Maldives: the Barceló Whale Lagoon Maldives. Opened just over a year ago, the resort is located in the South Ari Atoll and is renowned for its proximity to the South Ari Marine Protected Area, a top destination for whale shark sightings and diving.

With the opening of its flagship property in Malé, the Barceló Group has strengthened its foothold in the Maldives, aligning luxury hospitality with urban convenience and a growing focus on sustainable development.
