Maldives’ biggest kite surfing event ‘Raalhu Gudi’ concludes successfully at the shores of HA. Thuraakunu, the northernmost point of the Maldives.
A special ceremony took place at the beach of Thuraakunu and was inaugurated by the Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports & Community, Azmeel. Council members and civilians of the island took part in this celebration.
The fourth edition of the event began on June 18th, in Gan in the far south (Addu Atoll). The kiteboarders completed an exciting route divided into 23 bite-size legs from the southernmost point to the northernmost point of Maldives.
Raalhu Gudi founder and co-organiser, Asim ‘Simbe’ Mohamed was joined by the World Champion kiteboarder Youri Zoon, Ahmed Hamdhaan (Hambe) and Abdulla Thasleem (Delio). The event aims to increase promote Maldives as a kiteboarding destination and encourage the younger generation to get involved in kitesurfing.
Environmental awareness was also one of the main themes of the event, where participants took part in reef and beach clean-ups along the way to the final point.
The 900km route event was organized by a joint partnership of Slowtape and Maafushi Dive. In previous years, the event was focused on the kitesurfing hub of Maafushi island, 16 miles from the capital, Male’. This year’s event main sponsor is Slingshot, a US-based enterprise renowned as an innovative producer of kites and foils.
