China Assures Outbound Tourism to Maldives

China has assured outbound travel to Maldives, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih revealed.

However tourists returning to China after the trips have to carry a PCR test done within 120 hours prior to their return.

Maldives government has assured arrangements as such to the Chinese government. Preparations are underway to install a testing machine (with capacity to do 1,000 tests per day) at Velana International Airport with aid from the China government.

UAE and Germany have also marked Maldives safe to travel post pandemic.

Maldives will reopen borders for visitors from all nationalities from 15th July 2020. With this, Maldives have set new target to welcome 850,000 tourists in 2020.

China is the largest source market for Southeast Asian countries, including Maldives. Chinese market maintained its position as the top contributor to Maldives tourism with market share of 16.7% (284,029) in 2019.
