Velana International Airport New Terminal On Schedule

Construction of the new passenger terminal at Maldives’ main airport, Velana International Airport is on schedule and will be completed by mid 2022, Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) revealed.

“Our new International Passenger Terminal Velana Airport is taking shape,” a tweet by MACL read. “The construction is on fast pace and we are hopeful that the project will be completed as per schedule by mid 2022.”

MACL has further revealed that the new cargo terminal is scheduled to be completed by early 2021.

All structural works and roof has been completed, masonry and plastering works along with some drywall frames installation and MEP works are ongoing, MACL said. In addition to this, fire pump house wall and slab form-works installation are also in progress for the cargo terminal. 

Velana International Airport serves as a main hub for tourist arrivals to the country. The expansion of the airport is expected to aid Maldives in welcoming more tourists to the destination.
