China is an important market for the tourism industry of Maldives. As per the statistics of 2018, 19% of the total number of tourists were from China, which is the highest number of tourists from one country.
150 million Chinese traveled out of China in 2018 according to the Outbound Travel Report of 2018 by China Tourism Academy and Ctrip. This is an increase of 14% compared to the number of tourists traveled out of the country in 2017. The cities from which the greatest number of travelers who went out of the country includes Shanghai, Beijing, Chengdu, Nanjing, and Kunming.
