Maldives Maintains Daily Tourist Arrivals Above 1000 with Russia in the Lead

Maldives has maintained the daily tourist arrivals above 1000 with Russia as the lead market.

Statistics of Ministry of Tourism reveal that from 15th July to 25th November, a total of 67,564 tourists have arrived in the Maldives while as of 25th November, over 450,411 tourist arrivals was witnessed by the island nation.

Tourists monthly positive rate has gradually increased to 0.23 percent in late November with 27,182 while in early July the percentage dropped to 0.06.

The top source market for the tourist arrival was Russia with 14,855 arrivals, followed by India with 7,652 tourist arrivals. United Kingdom stood third with 5,035 tourist arrivals. Other top source markets include U.S.A, United Arab Emirates, Germany, Ukraine, Spain France and Brazil.

Emirates is the leading airline operator to Maldives with 254 movements and has carried over 21,624 passengers since border reopened. Qatar comes second close with a total of 19,500 passengers, followed by Aeroflot with 9,590 passengers carried to Maldives.

As of 25th November, over 368 tourists facilities are operating in Maldives including 126 resorts, 123 safari vessels, 119 hotels and guesthouses.

The island nation had introduced the first-of-its-kind initiative, “The Maldives Border Miles” program for travelers. In announcement made by the Maldives Immigration, the authority reveals that Maldives Border Miles is a three-tiered loyalty program for tourists which will be implemented in December 2020. Tourists will earn points based on the number of visits and duration of stay. Additional points will be awarded for visits to celebrate special occasions. With this initiative, Maldives will become the first country to offer a traveler loyalty program.

Despite being a difficult year for the tourism industry worldwide, Maldives has outshined itself during the ongoing pandemic as one of the safest countries to travel to. The island nation has also won 4 prestigious awards in the Indian Ocean category in World Travel Awards—the most prestigious honors program in global travel and tourism.

Maldives secured the title of Indian Ocean’s Leading Destination 2020, Leading Beach Destination 2020. Leading Dive Destination 2020 and Leading Cruise Destination 2020.

Over the years, Maldives has been awarded in various categories, including the World’s Leading Airport Resort, World’s Leading Beach Destination, World’s Leading Honeymoon Resort, World’s Most Romantic Resort and World’s Leading Luxury Island Resort in 2019.
