Soneva Tastemakers — From the lagoons of Sri Lanka to the Maldives, The Crab Shack

Soneva Tastemakers has unveiled the fifth tastemaker — the Crab Shack at Soneva Jani launched in December 2016.
From the lagoons of Sri Lanka to the Maldives, meet the man who helms The Crab Shack — Priyantha is the head chef at The Crab Shack at Soneva Jani, recently voted the world’s most romantic restaurant by CNN Travel. He grew up on a diet of lagoon crabs in Sri Lanka and now serves crab dishes inspired by the family recipes of Soneva’s chefs.
The Crab Shack’s signature dishes include the must-try black pepper crab, dishes featuring Sri Lankan mud, Alaskan and Kamchatka crabs (all Marine Stewardship Council certified), Mediterranean favorites and the ceviche of the day. Each dish on the menu comes with a carefully paired wine, Champagne, gin or lager.
The 32 cover restaurant and 14 seat bar is located on Soneva Jani’s southwest beach, on the opposite side of the island to Cinema Paradiso, and is comprised of two levels. The ground floor is taken up by the restaurant, kitchen and bar area, with the first-floor deck designed especially for guests to relax on tiered daybeds and enjoy the Maldivian sunsets while sipping on rosé wine or other beverages.
Soneva’s new film series the Tastemakers aims to introduce members of the talented food and beverage teams across Soneva Fushi, Soneva Jani as well as from Soneva Kiri in Thailand. It offers a rare behind-the-scenes glimpse into everyday life in Soneva’s bustling kitchens as well as an intriguing insight into each Tastemakers’ personal journey, cooking style and gastronomic philosophy.
