Temporary Shutdown of Tourism Industry: Resorts Bid Farewell to Last Guests

With the travel ban implemented by the government, resorts in Maldives are temporarily shutting down. Hurawalhi Maldives and LUX* South Resort have bid farewell to their last remaining guests.

Hurawalhi Maldives will be suspending operations till June 30. The resort bid farewell to its last guest with their team jumping into the sea.

LUX* South Maldives also said farewell to their last guests. Afeef Hussain, Regional Director of Training, Development and Quality Assurance at LUX* Resorts and Hotels shared a video with caption, “Our last guest departure for now. Tourism industry has come to a halt because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) Secretary General Ahmed Nazeer has described the COVID-19 impact on the Maldives tourism industry to be the worst in the industry history.
